Good Shepherd Church continues to be engaged in supporting the relief and recover efforts to the Southwest part of our state devastated by Hurricane Laura. During the weekend of August 29-30, Good Shepherd Church served as a receiving location for bottled water in our community. We collected so much bottled water that multiple trucks needed to be sent to church to be loaded up and delivered to the Lake Charles area. In fact, after hearing of road issues from the first two truck that headed out on Sunday evening, the fourth and final truck which left GSC on Monday afternoon only went as far as Baton Rouge where the water was then transferred to multiple private aircraft that flew the water into Lake Charles by landing on farms.
We continue our efforts to support our neighbors in their recovery and are seeking non-perishable food items and toiletries, including diapers, tooth brushes, toothpaste, soap, razors, shaving cream, shampoo, toilet paper, and paper towels. These items will be delivered to our ministry partner the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans. Other options for assisting include monetary donations and donations of gift cards for Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Sam's, Walgreens, and CVS. Please bring your donations to church on Sunday mornings and please continue to pray for those who are returning to the destruction and those on the ground assisting in the efforts to rebuild.
