Funerals at Good Shepherd Church
Planning
Advanced funeral planning may be done by reaching out to our parish priest and setting an appointment to discuss arrangements. This may be done at any time in the life of a parishioner and does not require that a person's death be imminent. Once a person has passed, family should reach out to the church as soon as possible. If arrangements will also include the use of a funeral home, the funeral director should be provided with the name of our church, the address and phone number of the church, and the pastor's name and contact information. |
Facility Fees
Funerals may be held in the sanctuary of Good Shepherd Church or in the chapel of a funeral home. Good Shepherd Church does not charge a facility fee for use of the church for funerals of members of the church. A donation to the church in honor of the deceased, particularly when the church facility is used, is very commonly accepted practice and these gifts typically range between $100 and $500, however, the amount is ultimately at the discretion of the family.
Clergy and Musician Fees
An honorarium for clergy and musician(s) should be paid directly to those professionals. When paying by check, the check should be written directly to the clergy member and directly to the musician(s) (not to the church). The pastoral honorarium customarily ranges between $150 and $300, while the musician honorarium ranges between $75 and $150 per musician. The amount of the honorarium is ultimately at the discretion of the family.
Scripture Readings
Good Shepherd Church offers this online pdf document as a resource for helping families choose appropriate Scriptures for funeral and memorial services. In advance of the service, the priest will speak with you about choosing Scriptures as well as whether loved ones would like to participate in the reading of certain Scriptures.
If you should need further information on this topic, please feel free to contact the church office.
